Sumac is a widely used, essential spice in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cooking. It's used in everything from dry rubs, marinades, and dressing. But its best use is sprinkled over food before serving. It pairs well with vegetables, grilled lamb, chicken and fish.

Sumac, also spelled sumach, is any one of about 35 species of flowering plants in the genus Rhus and related genera in the family Anacardiaceae. It grows in subtropical and temperate regions throughout the world, especially in East Asia, Africa, and North America.

Antioxidants work to protect your cells from damage and reduce oxidative stress within the body. There's also evidence that antioxidants in foods like sumac may play a role in reducing inflammation. They may help prevent inflammatory illnesses, such as heart disease and cancer.
